DESIGN ITALIA, 47 STUDIO PORTRAITS by SIMON171
DESIGN ITALIA, 47 STUDIO PORTRAITS gathers together forty-seven portraits of designers taken by the photographer Simon171. This project is born from her interest in design in union with her own personal exploration of photography portraits. For over a year, between July 2017 and November 2018, Simon171 met some of the most interesting protagonists of Italy’s contemporary design scene in their studios, offices, workshops, and workplaces.
DESIGN ITALIA is a collection of portraits where the leitmotif is the coexistence, the relationship between the occupied spaces and the people occupying them at that moment. Desks, bookshelves, corners with objects piled high, plants, sofas, and armchairs: but also details, lighting, the movements of the photographer onsite or from one location to another are all part of the artist’s process in creating her portraits. Nothing was programmed or pre-established, if not, obviously, the time and day of these encounters. Simon171 seems to start from here, from reading the place surrounding the person portrayed to allow traces of contemporaneity to enter her pictures.
For the project DESIGN ITALIA Simon171 has taken portraits of: Chiara Andreatti, Federico Angi, Giuseppe Bavuso, Ilaria Bianchi, Federica Biasi, Riccardo Blumer, Andrea Branzi, Brogliato+Traverso, Cristina Celestino, Aldo Cibic, Matteo Cibic, Dimorestudio, Antonio Facco, Formafantasma, Gamfratesi, Martino Gamper, Ron Gilad, Stefano Giovannoni, Gordon Guillaumier, Noa Ikeuchi (Mist-o), Ferruccio Laviani, Piero Lissoni, Marcantonio, Gustavo Martini, Alberto Meda, Francesco Meda, Alessandro Mendini, Giacomo Moor, Tommaso Nani (Mist-o), Alberto Nespoli, Toan Nguyen, Fabio Novembre, Matteo Nunziati, Kensaku Oshiro, Roberto Palomba, Federico Peri, Guglielmo Poletti, Elena Salmistraro, Antonino Sciortino, Ludovica Serafini, Roberto Sironi, Studio Klass, Studio Lido, Matteo Thun, Patricia Urquiola, Zanellato/Bortotto, e Matteo Zorzenoni.
